If you have not had an opportunity to explore twitter, it is definitely time that you begin thinking about using this tool for your own professional growth. Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users to send and read other users’ updates.
Twitter uses SMS Protocol to deliver short messages (140 characters or less). These messages are managed through your Twitter account; however, you can access them through your phone or other Twitter applications. The messages are sent to your friends/network (followers) instantly.
Although Twitter is often times used for personal messages, you will find so many useful tools, resources, ideas, etc. if you follow people that have the same interests, etc. I have to admit when I first signed up for Twitter in 2007 that I was not really convinced on the usefulness of this tool. I have learned that this tool now is one of the most valuable resources and learning tools that I use on a daily basis. Within minutes I can find out answers to questions, problems, surveys, etc. It is absolutely amazing what you can find on Twitter.
My recommendation is to set up an account with Twitter by doing the following:
Go to http://www.twitter.com
Step 1: Go to http://www.twitter.com
Step 2: Click on Get Started–Join
Step 3: Fill in information in the following information:
- Full Name
- Username (Will check availability)
- Password (Must be at least 6 characters)
- Email
- Type code
- Click on Create my account
Step 4: Skip the next step of entering Email Password
Step 5: Uncheck Select All (otherwise you will be following the people that are listed)
Step 6: Click on Follow
Step 7: Click on Settings
Step 8: Fill in your account information and Press Save
Begin finding professionals or others to follow that have the same interests as you have.
