1) The character i picked was Jim. Jim is a run away slave and has been through many challenges in this book. The first thing he went through was getting away from Miss Watson because he heard she was going to sell him deeper south. “Well, one night I creeps to de do’, pooty late, en de do’ warn’t quite shet, en I hear ole missus tell de widder she gwyne to sell me down to Orleans.” Next he met Huck and took care of him like a son. Then  Jim gets bit by a rattle snake and drinks a lot so he wont feel the pain. Jim and Huck set off for Cairo after Huck says that they were after them. Jim and Huck get separated and Jim reveals his true feelings for Huck. They end up passing Cairo in the fog that separated them. Two men ask Huck if the man in the tent is black or white and Huck says white. The raft they were on got ran over by a steam boat.  They got separated again and then got back together. Then he met the Duke and the King. He stands by while they scam people. They tie him up so he can travel during the day.

1) An interesting fact about the book The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was that it was banned in Concord Public Library 1885. This book was recently unbanned and in the news recently. Mark Twains writing process dealt with the time period he was living in. Mark Twain witnessed the practice of slavery first-hand. He did not own any slaves. Mark Twain was not racist, he respected blacks. He just grew up saying that bad stuff about them but then he grew out off it. He was a religious man and in Huck Finn his view on society was negative and showed it through his characters.

1) The theme I picked was superstition. “Ef you’s got hairy arms en a hairy breas’, it’s a sign dat you’s agwyne to be rich.” This passage represents how Jim lives his life by superstition and good or bad luck.

2)Tom has a strong influence on Huck. Huck admires him because he talks like  he knows the answer to everything and makes everything more fun. “Tom Sawyer called the hogs “ingots”, and he called the turnips and stuff “julery” and we would go to the cave and pow-wow over what we had done and how many peopled we killed and marked.”

4)Why is Jim so superstitious? Why does Huck prefer the old way over being proper?
