Monday, March 26th, 20121. My name is Jim. I was born in Illinois and grew up with my owner, Miss. Watson. I thought she cared more about me until one day, I found out she wanted to sell me to get $800! Unbelievable right? I now have, possibly the biggest decision I ever have to make, is to runway and be sold! Another boy lived with me, his name was Huck. Huck was my only friend, and all during this was happening, I shortly heard Huck was murdered! I didn’t know what to do, finding out your going to be sold, then you find out then you only friend gets killed? Angry and depressed, I made a quick decision that I hope I won’t regret. I ran away. I got a boat and went down the Mississippi River. After a while, I stopped at a island to rest and think everything out. I was very lucky to get a boat and get away. I plan on going to a free state and buying my family. When I woke up, Huck was laying next to me! I jumped up and was happier then ever! He told me all what happened and that he never was killed, but was a trick. We both decided to head South and begin out journey!
1a. Jim is successful in many ways. He managed to escape from Miss. Watson so he can’t be sold, then finds a boat to head to a free state.

Monday, February 27th, 2012A) Misunderstanding of Religion
B) “She told me to pray every day, and whatever I asked for I would get it. But it warn’t so. I tried it. Once I got a fish-line, but no hooks. It warn’t any good good without hooks.”
C) This quote from the story shows that Huck does not understand the religion entirely because God doesn’t give anything Huck asks for or wants. God gives in other ways, but doesn’t give what Huck thinks he is suppose to give.
2) “Some young birds came along, flying a yard or two at a time and lighting. Jim said it was sign when young chickens flew that way, and so he reckoned it was the same way when young birds done it”
- This shows the Jim thinks a little different the Huck does. Jim sees things differently then Huck and this is important in the story to show what might happen or how Jim will react to something in the future.
3)“He went and bent down and looked, and says: ‘It’s a dead man. Yes indeedy; naked, too. He’s ben shot in de back. I reck’n he’s ben dead two er three days. Come in, Huck, but doan’ look at his face – it’s too gashly.”
-Jim cares about Huck more then his father did
3)“‘Ransomed? What’s that?’ ‘I don’t know. but that’s what they do. I’ve seen it in books; and so of course that’s what we’ve got to do.”
-This shows how Tom Sawyer is a big influence on people and young children
3) “The nigger run off the very night Huck Finn was killed. So there’s a reward out for him–three hundred dollars. And there’s a reward out for
old Finn, too–two hundred dollars.”
-This shows the Jim is being blamed of killing Huck and that if Jim didn’t and it was his father, they could careless if he didn’t come back at all because his is a problem to everyone.
4) Do you think Miss. Watson misses or cares about Huck at the time? Why?
4) What would you do if you were in either Huck’s or Jim’s position?
