1) Hi my name is Jim. I used to live in Illinois but when my owner Miss. Watson was going to sell me to a slave trader for $800 I decided to run away. There was a boy that Miss. Watson used to teach, Huck, he was real interesting but didn’t care too much for education. So i was living on my own for about a day and then in the middle of the night Huck comes and wakes me up. I was really scared because of the news i heard, Huck is supposed to be dead! We camp together for a little while and we come up with a plan to get to the north. At one point we got separated in for and Huck played a mean trick on me saying it was all a dream, “Well this is too many for me, Jim. I hain’t seen no fog nor no islands, nor no troubles, nor nothing. I been setting here talking with you all night till you went to sleep about ten minutes ago, and I reckon I done the same. You couldn’t a got drunk in that time, so of course you’ve been dreaming.” (88). We keep floating along and a big ferry boat hits our raft and breaks it to pieces. I lost Huck in the night so i went and hid in a cave until a slave found me and said he’s seen Huck! I was so glad. in the time I had I fixed up out raft and we were sailing again. We almost got caught when two men wanted to see what was going on and why we were on a raft and Huck lied and we got $20 each out of it too. We met these two men, King and Duke, I couldn’t believe it royalty on out raft! We went from town to town with king and duke. I never knew what they did because i had to stay tied up to keep people from getting suspicious but when ever they came back they always wanted to leave in a hurry. We happened to miss Cairo in the fog so we’ve been going further south into slave territory, I don’t know what we’re going to do now.

2) “Miss Mary Jane, you can’t abear to see people in trouble, and I can’t – most always. Tell me about it.” Does this show that Huck cares about people other than himself, does this mean he’s maturing?

1) The question I asked “Was Mark Twain Racist?” The article I found Quotes many things that Mark twain said in his life and his autobiography at http://classiclit.about.com/od/marktwainfaqs/f/faq_mtwain_slav.htm . What I found is that Mark Twain wasn’t racist.

2) The feud between the Grangerfords and the Shepherdsons is satire because Mark Twain is making fun of the fact that these families can’t remember why they are fighting but they need to fight. They teach the next generation to fight too and no one wants to put an end to the fighting because they’ve been told that one family did something horrible to the other family.

3)”Doan’ less’ talk about it’ Huck. Po’ niggers can’t have no luck. I awluz ‘spected dat rattle-snake skin warn’t done wid its work.”

Jim says this right after Huck says they might have passed Cairo in the fog 2 nights ago.
My question is do you think the snake-skin bad luck is over if not what do you think will happen to them next?

1)a Misunderstanding religion
1)b  “after supper she got out her book and learned me about Moses and the Bulrushers; and I was in a sweat to find out all about him; but by-and-by she let it out that Moses had been dead a considerable long time; so then I didn’t care no more about him; because I don’t take no stock in dead people.” (4)
1)c This passage reveals that Huck doesn’t care about the past, only the present.
2)a “Do you reckon Tom Sawyer would ever go by this thing? Not for Pie, he wouldn’t. He’d call it an adventure – That’s what he’d call it; and he’d land on that wreck if it was his last act.” (69)
2)b Huck tries to point out to Jim that if Tom Sawyer was here he would go on the ship in a heartbeat.
3)a “He went and bent down and looked, and says: ‘It’s a dead man. Yes indeedy; naked, too. He’s ben shot in de back. I reck’n he’s ben dead two er three days. Come in, Huck, but doan’ look at his face – it’s too gashly.” (53) This passage shows that Jim does care about Huck and is like a father figure to Huck
3)b “‘Ransomed? What’s that?’ ‘I don’t know. but that’s what they do. I’ve seen it in books; and so of course that’s what we’ve got to do.’” (10-11)This passage is significant because it shows how influenced Tom Sawyer is by fiction books and how much the other kids are influenced by Tom.
3)c “Living in a house, and sleeping in a bed, pulled on me pretty tight, mostly, but before the cold weather I used to slide out and sleep in the woods, sometimes, and so that was a rest to me. I liked the old ways best, but I was getting so I liked the new ones, too, a little bit.” This passage is significant because it shows that Huck liked it before when he was living with Pap and he was allowed to do what he wanted, there weren’t any rules.

Questions
1) Do you think at one point Pap wanted to change when the new judge took him in?
2) If Jim and Huck were caught what do you think would happen to Jim and what would happen to Huck?
