Chapters 1-15
Consider the dystopias we discussed in Animal Farm, “Harrison Bergeron,” and “The Lottery.” Answer one of the following questions, referring to both Kaffir Boy and one of the aforementioned texts, in at least ten sentences.
1. Is a dystopian society presented in a more effective manner through a non-fiction text or a fiction text? Explain your response, citing specific examples.
2. Each text regarding a dystopian society contains pivotal moments for the characters. Choose the single most pivotal moment from Kaffir Boy, as well as a life-changing moment from one of the other texts, and explain the scene’s importance to the character’s life and the overall message of the story.
3. How might the text change if it were told from the perspective of one of the oppressors? Reimagine a specific scene from the viewpoint of an antagonist, and highlight critical differences in tone and theme.
