Comment on Write a paragraph on your feelings about the book at this point. What do you like about it? What are you having difficulty understanding? Can you make connections to other literature or television shows with the same themes? Be specific. The purpose of this assignment is to clarify characters, plot, and setting for each other. After your first pararagph, briefly research the author of your book, and write a short summary telling what you think will be helpful to your understanding of the book. No sparknotes! by Jo-elle Daveler

A very interesting analysis of Ian McEwan. The romance scene would woo many women!

OK. Yes, if you are in Anthropology you should be able to make connections. You need to read more about the author. Achebe wrote this book for a specific reason.

I am glad that you are enjoying the book. Yes, the Igbo language can be difficult, but there is a glossary in the back of the book. Achebe had a real purpose for writing this novel; he wanted the world to see a more realistic, even positive image of his people. Think about that as you continue to read. Do you think the image of the Igbo presented by Achebe is positive?

CJ, I am glad that you chose this book. Yes, the differences between Okonkwo and his father are quite interesting, but there is a reason Okonkwo is so different from his father.
I am looking forward to reading your future posts about the book because there are some very surprising events as the novel continues.

Ian, I enjoyed your comments, and I hope you are finding it more than mildly interesting by this point in time. Yes, there are a lot of casualties in the book; Remarque does not sugar coat the truth.

I am glad that you are enjoying the book. Tell me about where you are in it. After the first half of the book, I could not put it down. Yes, I can understand the character confusion. I suggest printing a character list from Sparknotes. I am very excited that you are enjoying it!

I'm not sure what author you are talking about here because this is actually very different from the Diary of Anne Frank. Are you talking about Nicolas Sparks? Yes, the language is confusing, maybe you want to try another book. The vocabulary in this book is difficult, but don't be afraid to challenge yourself. Get some help with the first few chapters because it becomes the romance and the plot becomes quite exciting as you continue to read.

Josey, I hope you keep reading. Yes, the two are from two different socioeconomic backgrounds, and another type of animosity will surface as you continue to read the book. Good parallel to Romeo and Juliet. Yes, the names can be confusing, perhaps you want to write down the name and the relationships to help you keep them straight in your mind. Keep reading, it is a great book!

I am reading Atonement by Ian McEwan. It's a little overwhelming because of all the characters in the story. Briony Tallis is annoying to me because she seems naive and makes bad assumptions about people such as Robbie. I do like the romance between Robbie and Cecilia. It parallels Romeo & Juliette. It is seen as frowned upon the relationship between Cecilia and Robbie because Robbie is the son of the maid on the Tallis property.
The author, Ian McEwan, is a renowned British writer. He moved around a lot when he was young. So I would think that he has had many inspirational stories and ideas that formed in his head while traveling.
