It's a little overwhelming because of all the characters in the story. Briony Tallis is annoying to me because she seems naive and makes bad assumptions about people such as Robbie. I do like the romance between Robbie and Cecilia. It parallels Romeo & Juliette. It is seen as frowned upon the relationship between Cecilia and Robbie because Robbie is the son of the maid on the Tallis property. The author, Ian McEwan, is a renowned British writer. He moved around a lot when he was young. So I would think that he has had many inspirational stories and ideas that formed in his head while traveling. I am reading Atonement by Ian McEwan.
