Do’s
- TEST your connection to each site using the same equipment and same location that you expect for the actual event.
- Prepare the class for what to expect – classroom teachers should complete the pre-conference lessons with students to be sure they are prepared with knowledge of the subject and questions to ask an expert, content provider or each other. Expect students to participate and give a participation grade if possible.
- Plan the time schedule for the event right down to the minute but be flexible for some unexpected learning.
- Prepare an introduction by a student(s) to the class, school, school district, community, city, state. make it unique and interesting.
- Speak slowly and distinctly to allow for audio lapse and, if doing a collaborative event, say the name of the school before sharing.
- Be aware you are on camera at all times even when you can’t see yourself – speak directly to the camera and treat the others as if they were in the room with you.
Don’ts
- Don’t forget to mute your microphone when you are not speaking – classroom noise can be distracting.
- Do not dress in bright colors – stripes, plaids, reds, even white.
- Don’t do anything inappropriate as it could cause your class to be disconnected from the conference and embarrass your school.
