I think that they are really close friends. Doing that much for someone does show that you care about them a lot. I would say that Antonio has strong feelings for Bassanio

If I was in that type of situation, there is no way I would have done it for a friend. I wouldn't be able to risk my life for just anyone. That person would have to be someone that means much more to me than just friendship. So with that being said, I think Antonio feels something more than friendship for Bassanio.

I think Shylock is more concerned about his jewels than Jessica. Shylock wishes she was dead with this jewels lying next to her in her casket. This wish obviously shows that he's more concerned about his wealth than his daughter. In my opinion Shylock is selfish and an extremest. At first, I felt bad for him because everyone hated him and was leaving him, but then it turned out that he was just as bad as they all said. I also agree with your statement.

I think that many different time periods would have a different say in this question because of the way he live today. But generally, i believe that they are just good friends and i think that it was probably normal to act that way when a close friend departed. If you think about it today, when a good friend or family member leaves at an airport or drives away to college, the other people do tend to get emotional and even cry. But from the reading so far, Bassiano is the only person Antonio can count on because we haven't been introduced to any of Antonio's other friends.

I really liked this passage that you choose because it adds a twist to everything that has been going on. For your question number 1, i think Gratiano had absolutaly no idea he was gonna fall in love with Nerissa because true love is never expected. When reading question 2, i had to think for a little, but then decided that the fate didnt entirelly depend on choosing the right casket, but in the long run the two of them would probably never get to be married if Bassiano chose wrong. Then finally, question 3 was a simple yes because if the two of them were that eager to ask to get married with Bassiano and Portia then they must be in love.

Shylocks reason for describing the Jews and Christians similaritieswas to show that there was no reason for Christians to hate Jews. He was showing how Christians hated Jews even though they were similar. He questions why it's looked down on when a Jew does something a Christian does.

I believe that the meaning was exactly how you stated it. I believe that Bassanio was inteligent enough to look deeper into the meaning of the boxes, rather then just using the outward appearance.

I don't believe that Shylock is worried as much for his daughter as he is for his wealth he lost. It seems that he has this mindset in which he has come to believe that his daughter betrayed him, he is not of true importance to her. I believe that he feels as though his daughter doesn't love him, so he loses his love for her and becomes infatuated with his money. But I also believe that he was very greedy before too. I too, agree with your statement.

I think Bassanio is in love with Portia, but I'm sure the money also has an influence. But i guess overall Bassanio loves Portia, not her money.

I think that the one being reckless here is Antonio. He casually gambles his life on his ships, and also doesn't consider the possibility that Shylock is serious in his bond for a pound of flesh. He should have been more careful considering how he offended Shylock. His willingness to help Bassanio is admirable, but in the long run could prove foolish.
