Chap. 9

May 9th, 2012

Chapter 9:
Darrell avoided Amberlynn for 3 weeks. Every Thursday, Tyray and Rodney warned in gym class, that he better be at the supermarket the next morning, so he continued to give Tyray his mother’s money. The only time Darrell did not think about Tyray was at wrestling practice. He was slowly getting stronger.
Darrell learned quickly that wrestling was like chess, just had to used strategy. He still lost constantly, but now it was because his opponents scored more points than he did.
Saturday after practice Darrell ran into Jamie at the supermarket. Jamie explained Darrell how Amberlynn felt about what happened in class some days before with Tyray.
The day of his first match, Darrell walked in and out of classrooms like a zombie. He was scared about about humiliating himself in front the school. The match started the first two points was for Darrell, but his opponent was very fast. After three rounds, the Bluford side was filled. The coaches were happy for Darrell and try to tell Darrell that he did a good job. His mother, feel good for her and told him how good was.

Chapter 7

Everything started at the English class when Mr. Mitchell asked Darrell if he had tough time at school. Mr. Mitchell said to Darrell about his life at Darrell’s age and explained he was bullied too. Mr. Mitchell wanted to support Darrell by giving him a book called “Hatchet” by Gary Paulsen. Darrell didn’t like to read but after all this pressure from Mr. Mitchell he decided to take the book. He went home after school and he was really relieved that he would not see Tyray for 4 days because it was the first Thanksgiving weekend that Darrell will spend in California with his cousins. Darrell decided to spend his weekend reading Hatchet, because he had nothing else to do. The beginning of the book was pretty boring for Darrell, because Gary Paulsen was talking about a rich boy named Brian that had his own airplane. Darrell thought why Mr. Mitchell had gave him this book, but he knew that it was something important behind this story. Darrell kept reading. He realized that Brian’s airplane pilot had a heart attack and he died, so Brian had to land the airplane on his own. Darrell finished Hatchet on Saturday night and he finally knew why Mr. Mitchell had given him the book. Mr. Mitchell wanted Darrell to understand that the outer strength is not what it matters, but the inner strength, the one that Brian used. After looking over some of the pages Darrell realized the key point. Brian changed when he realized that he was not going to survive alone in the woods so Darrell felt the same way about Bluford High School. Darrell knew he had to change in order to survive. The only think he’s missing is HOW.

Maria’s Silent Language Reflection.

March 30th, 2012

One of the habits I have is cracking my knuckles. This habit sends many different messages to people. For example when I crack my knuckles sometimes I feel bored or sleepy or uncomfortable with something around me. Also I feel nervous about what is going to happen next. I don’t know if I can do anything to correct that habit because every time I say I’m going to stop it, is not happening I keep doing it perpetually and automatically.

Jessica’s Silent Language Reflection

I would have to say that my body language habit is playing with my nails. Though it sends the massage of being nervous, for me, it actually means that I’m just really bored. A way of not showing that message is by not doing it at all. If i don’t do it, then I’m bound to have more of a positive appearance. Another way to not send the message of being nervous is to show full attention to the person you are speaking to. This will show that you are very interested for what they would have to say.

The habits I have are: I bite my lips when not to do or when I see a hot person, I bite my nails when I’m nervous. I shake my leg when I’m desperate for something. I scratch my head when I think of something. I touch my hands when I finish or finish something. I do not know how to fix it all but could try to control them such as nerves to finish.

I think I have the personality type “S”, but I am not too much sure about this because sometimes I show different types of personalities. I think I’m more like “s” because I consider myself loyal, constant when I want something a little reserved with my stuff and try to avoid conflict. With a “s” personality we can help people because we are loyal, and like to help each others and try to sole conflicts. And when We go to the college we can choose a lot of career we can choose be engineer because we want to do things right.
