Welcome to the Excel Greek Books Blog at Blogs @ MTSD.  Choose a Greek fiction or nonfiction book, read the book, and fill out the report form (from Mr. L.).  Type it in Word and post it on this blog.  Then fourth graders will post comments on your book and you can post comments on their books.  It will be just like other online book reviews.  Maybe you’ll find books that you would like to read!

Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief

Report by Mr. Linner

This book was written by Rick Riordan and is the first of the series.  I chose it because it was popular with many students.  I enjoyed the book because it was a page turner that hooked me into the story.  The story takes place in New York and Los Angeles and places in between them in current time.  The most important character was Percy Jackson because he was a hero who used his challenge of ADHD as a strength.  The story is really about a hero discovering himself and his quest to find and return Zeus’s thunderbolt.  The problem was that Percy and friend were attached by monsters while trying to stop a war between the gods.  It was solved by finding and returning the thunderbolt and the Helm of Darkness owned by Hades.  A new word was Hephaestus who was the god of fire, sculpture, metalworking, and volcanism.  The book is fiction and mythology book.  I would rate the book a 9 and recommend it to people interested in adventure and Greek myths.
